PEABODY GAZETTE

September 5th 1879

PLUM GROVE, BUTLER CO., KANSAS, September 5th, 1879

EDITOR: Gazette

The past two weeks have seen candidates for the various county offices have called upon us for our opinion regarding their chance for the office they aspire for. To save time and traveling expenses to those that have not called, we will give our thought through the GAZETTE. There are four paying offices to be filled at the coming election in Butler county. My opinion is this: give each of the three Commissioner districts one of the best offices, and the fourth, which is Register of Deeds to “A Star Cuss,” which is the only fair way to divide the offices among the constituents.

☞Mr. Goodrich will winter thirty-five hundred sheep on the farm of I. A. Shriver.

☞Dr. Horner starts on the 9th inst. for Cincinnati; he intends to be absent about nine months attending the medical college.

☞The champion foot racers of Butler county met at this place last Saturday, and after parleying, the parties were started off with the up creek fellow coming out last in the outcome.

☞On the 28 inst. at the residence of I. Pershing, by Rev. Clark, Mr. A. Neiinan and Miss Lydia Pershing were married.

☞The father of Dr. Seaman will start for his home in Missouri next week.

A St✶r Cus.
