On the 9th inst. there was a Greenback meeting advertised at this place; Mr. Dillon, of Sycamore, called the meeting to order. After looking the crowd over, it was found that there was not a Greenbacker present to make a chairman of, so your humble servant had that office to fill. Calamity Sam’s speech killed all of the Greenback element that ever was here.
☞ Mr. J. W. Burr, of East Berlin, Conn., is visiting friends at this place.
☞ S. M. Spencer and lady will start on the 22d to be absent about. Ten days.
☞ On the 16th inst. the Republicans of Butler county met to nominate county officers, with the following results: For Treasurer, Milton Bradley; Sheriff, Walter Douglas; Clerk, C. P. Strong, and
E.. Harvey, Register of Deeds. The Convention was composed of 172 delegates, with the same number of alternates. The Republicans have a strong ticket, one that will be elected in November next.
