My hiding place
by Lyman Spencer
When there was danger, that little ant ran to a hole in the wall. “The Lord told me. ‘You know Corrie, that little hole in the wall is a hiding place for the ant. Don’t forget that I am your hiding place.'”
I remember seeing the premiere of ”The Hiding Place” in 1975 following my first life-threatening trauma and the effect it had in transforming my mind. Like many a wayward young man, I had no time to consider nor the desire to see the many small cares God takes on His creation. He does care, too, and can use anything, person, situation, event, etc., etc.!
Consider the small insignificant ant God sent to fellowship with Corrie Ten Boom in her solitary prison cell, giving hope to the captive in the darkest days of despair.
When there was danger, that little ant ran to a hole in the wall. “The Lord told me. ‘You know Corrie, that little hole in the wall is a hiding place for the ant. Don’t forget that I am your hiding place.'”
Likewise, when gloom had deepened even further, He sent a skylark as a messenger to visit the prisoners when they and her sister were imprisoned together in a German concentration camp. She wrote so much about her life and passed on a vast store of knowledge and wisdom, but one of my personal favorites is summed up in three short, concise sentences.
“If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.”
Corrie Ten Boom
Now, 46 years later, following my second life-threatening trauma, I would like to think I have grown in wisdom, but the reality is not MY wisdom; I have needed HIS presence to guide me through every day of my life. But I know one thing for sure: I, too, want to be at rest!
